The concept of the magazine “(O)gled” is based on the idea of a broadly set monograph, whose nucleus is based on a series of texts dedicated to the work of one artist, and wider contextual mix of other essays dedicated to certain artistic phenomena generated by the selected artist’s work, ranging from history of art to contemporary artistic practice, theory of art, philosophy, sociology, science, including interviews and presentations. This interwoven debate provides hybrid, perhaps unexpected way of approach to the central theme, opening up and at the same time refining key problem nodes.

The artist of the first issue of “(O)gled” is Vladimir Nikolić (1974), one of the most important representatives of the contemporary art scene in Serbia. His artistic practice is mostly based on video art. Video performance, installations and interventions in public space in his work are in the service of media expansion. With a view directed towards the issues of social and political relevance of art expression, Nikolić started from the institutional critique towards the historical continuity of avant-garde criticism. Investigating the role of the image in contemporary modes of visual perception, he also problematizes the process of perception itself, that is, the image as a historical and cultural construct.
